67/365. 29/365 (ii)
i pretty much stopped taking pictures when i had to use my hands to cut, chop, and dice onions, garlic and other things for the turkey. i had to get in there and massage the bird with all the spices. yep. i was the cook today. my mom shopped for the ingredients with me, but she decided to relax while i was in the kitchen.
i liked that.
i completely passed out before dinner time as i was up from 6am and my mom, auntie, cousin and brothers were passed out while i was cooking. by the time they ate - i refused to wake up.
for my first time preparing thanksgiving dinner.. my mom said i did well. although the turkey was pre-cooked - i used a lot of sherry wine to marinate before braising it to roasting. no pumpkin pie.. but there was pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and marble-like chocolate bottom cupcakes that i experimented with. oh! and i also made two types of pasta since my brothers love eating that.. pasta carbonara and pasta bolognese.
so clearly... i was so tired when i was done cooking.
i will upload the photo my brother took of my turkey. my mom kept trying to wake me up saying,
"wake up! wake up! time to eat.. your turkey looks beautiful!"
Vegetable and Tomato Paella
Andrew Simpson. Mid Jan 2006.
My approximation of a Paella with available ingredients and equipment. Use any veg to hand, plum tomatoes and their juice, fresh or tinned. If fresh, chop them stew them for ages until mushy before using in this. Flavoured with sage and oregano from my garden, freshly grated ginger, shredded bay leaf. The 'rice' is in fact bulgar wheat (all I had) but it works terrifically Due to starchiness which is really bad for digestion, I like to soak rice or bulgar wheat for a large part of a day in cold water and drain before using. Good fix. This is an excellent wholesome meal in itself but today (being super hungry) I served an oven baked sea bass upon a bed of this paella!
I prefer to add any appropriate stock you may have made recently (vegetable or fish and vegetable if you will be adding fish to make a meal) rather than just plain water. A splash of sherry or wine will never hurt this dish! The tomatoes yield a fair amount of liquid in themselves. I cooked it so that the liquid reduced down to a greater extent before serving.
